PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Inayatullah Saturday asked the federal government to address the problems being faced by expatriates in Saudi Arabia.
The provincial minister, who called on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra here at the Governor House, said Pakistani workers in Saudi Arabia have been left stranded after not being paid for months.
In his reply, the Pakhtunkhwa governor said the federal government was playing its due role for the resolution of problems being faced by 2.5 million expatriates in Saudi Arabia.
Jhagra said the federal government was in contact with the respective authorities of Saudi Arabia through diplomatic channels and was taking all possible steps to ease the situation.
Saudi Arabia posted a record $98 billion budget deficit in 2015, mainly due to falling oil prices. Many of the kingdom’s construction projects have been suspended or cancelled as a knock-on effect.
